WHAT IS POSHMARK?

 

Poshmark is a popular app and website used to sell clothing online. It originally started with the idea that a woman could sell the designer items in her closet and purchase gently worn designer items at really great prices.

It has since grown into a great way for entrepreneurs to build their own fashion business quickly and easily.

This is a short account of how I make money on Poshmark and how you can, too!

 

MY SUCCESS WITH POSHMARK

In the past 2 years since I started selling on Poshmark I have made over $2000 in my spare time and it’s been surprisingly fun!

I’ve found it a great way to get a few extra dollars in my account whenever I need it. But there are plenty of people who have turned it into a full-time job, an easy thing to do.

The categories available to list your items in have expanded in the last year to include all of the following:

Women’s Clothing
Handbags
Shoes
Kids
Men
Brands (Sell under popular brand names like Nike, Free People and Coach.)
Parties (Share your listings to daily parties for free exposure.)

In addition to Poshmark’s already large and growing group of shoppers, your listings will also pull up in Google searches through Poshmark.

So if you have some great designers in your closet that you’re not wearing anymore, this is a good chance to get paid for them.

It’s free to sign up for a Poshmark account and it’s free to list items.

The fees and shipping automatically come out of your sales so you know exactly how much money you’re making in every sale.

PROOF POSHMARK IS A REAL WAY TO MAKE MONEY

As I said, I’ve been buying and selling on Poshmark for almost 2 years, since the end of December 2015.

I started with the unworn and gently worn items in mine and my friends’ closets, and expanded by adding items I found in thrift stores or on sale racks.

One time I found a high-end, designer hand back for $25 at a swap meet. I turned around and sold it for $150. 

Anytime I happen to come across a great designer item or cute piece of clothing at a great price, even if it’s not my size I will pick it up to sell through my store.

I’ve invested about $300 into merchandise overall with a huge return and I’m now working on starting and selling my own clothing line.

There is no doubt you can make money selling clothing on Poshmark.

I’ve only been doing it a few hours a week. Imagine if you tried it for an hour a day or more!

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Selling on Poshmark is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Once you download the app…

1. Take several good, clear pictures of the item you are selling using your phone.

2. Write a clear description.

3. Save your listing to your closet and share it to the Poshmark feed and any social media platforms you want.

Once your item sells….

4. Print off the USPS (United States Post Office) shipping label provided by Poshmark.

5. Use a free USPS priority mail box (you can order this for free on USPS.com) and some nice tissue to package your product. (I like to add stickers and a hand-written card for a personalized experience and better ratings.)

6. Drop your labeled package in any USPS package receptacle. No need to wait in line! Sometimes I will even arrange a free pick-up by my mailman through USPS.com.

Once your package is delivered, your customer can accept and review the purchase so you are paid immediately. If your customer does not take the time to do it, your funds are released to you within 3 days of delivery.

Getting paid is as simple as transferring the funds into your bank account or requesting a check by mail. Anytime my account is getting a little dry or I need some extra funds, I bounce over to my Poshmark balance and transfer the funds I need. It’s a great way to save up!

WHAT ARE POSHMARK’S SELLER FEES?

Poshmark fees are pretty simple to follow, and the thing I like most is they come straight off the top of the sale so there is no surpise charge later (ahem…Ebay).

For all sales under $15, Poshmark takes a flat commission of $2.95.

For sales of $15 or more, you keep 80% of your sale and Poshmark’s commission is 20%.

Shipping costs are a flat rate charged by Poshmark and not something you ever have to worry about. When you make your listing, you decide your price and the app will show exactly how much money you will make from that sale.

While 20% might seem high, you’re paying for the simplicity of the entire thing and the exposure to 100’s and 1000’s of customers.

After trying to keep up with the fees for each transaction on Ebay and Amazon, this is a true blessing.

There’s nothing worse than making an awesome sale on Ebay, only to see a huge charge for their fees at the end of the month.

Poshmark pays you what you earned so there’s no mystery.

 

QUICK TIPS FOR FAST SALES

1. The easiest way to get your closet listings being seen is simply sharing them. You can share them directly to the Poshmark feed where your followers can see them.

2. You can also set up your account to automatically share your shares to any of the popular social media platforms. My favorites are Facebook and Pinterest. Pinterest is great for sharing as people are always browsing it for fashion ideas and sales.

3. When you share to your feed it’s your followers who get to see it first, so it’s very important to keep growing your followers. Taking every action to become a Posh Ambassador will help you grow your followers and make your closet a recommendation for new poshers to follow.

Since I’ve reached this status I have automatically built up dozens of followers each day without doing anything at all, and the sales have increased, too!

When you join Poshmark they will help guide you through these steps. I recommend making these statistics your focus to build up your exposure fast.

If you do this YOU WILL GET SALES.

4. Sharing to parties.

Three times a day Poshmark will throw little parties to feature particulare brands or styles. I use these parties as a way to see what is popular, as Poshmark will throw parties for items people are really searching for.

If you put can get at least 1 or 2 items into 2 or more parties a day you will get exposure faster. This will also help with your sharing statistics.
